VEX Robotics challenge
Get involved with the award winning VEX Robotics team who recently retained their UK crown and finished runners up to the US Navy at the US National Vex Tournament held at UCLA
Business & Engineering Enterprise day
Use your business and Engineering skills to help develop Engineering links to primary schools and key stage three students. This Year’s two winning teams will be visiting local primary schools and running a competition for year 6 students
MBDA Glider Challenge
Runners up in last year’s competition, students will have the opportunity to design and build their own glider guided by the expertise of local Engineers. This event takes place at the Stevenage site.
Farnborough Air Show
This year, I am pleased to announce that we will be taking a group of students to the Farnborough air show to enhance our Engineering curriculum and promote more areas of Engineering outside of Electronics and into Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering
Big Band Science Fair
Part of the Big Bang Science show as seen on the BBC, two teams of John Warner Students will be competing at this year’s fair on the 15th and 16th March in the Robotics and Engineering category
Extra curricula Robotics club
All students have the opportunity to be involved as peer mentors to younger students who wish to get Engineering experience. We have robotics kits, VEX kits, Lego Mindstorms and a vast array of Electronics which students are welcome to experience during lunchtime sessions or after school
MBDA Stevenage Engineering test facility
Students will have the chance to see real life Engineering in action when we visit MBDA Stevenage to see their vast test facilities- from vibration and impact testing, to climatic simulations and laser guided missile tests – students will get to see how Engineering has a very real impact on everyday life
Tour of MBDA Engineering facility
Not many schools get the opportunity to tour a missile factory! Last term, a group of year 12 and 13 Engineering students got the opportunity to take a tour of MBDA’s Engineering facility where they saw state of the art machinery that is some of the world’s most advanced electronic manufacturing equipment
The Rotary Club of Hoddesdon, Technology Tournament
Every year, four teams from John Warner, compete against all local secondary schools for the coveted Technology Shield in Basic, Intermediate and Advanced categories. In the past two years, we have been the holders of all three levels of the award and always have a strong team
The world’s greatest science and technology fair. BETT 2013 is moving to ExCel London! This multi award winning venue located in London’s docklands has hosted over 3800 events and will be welcoming over 30,000 visitors including a group of year 12 and 13 students from the John Warner School
With jobs ever increasingly difficult to come by, Engineering is still an area of growth for enthusiastic and well trained Engineers who can benefit from the many advances in technology and the need for individuals with the skills to keep up with today’s rapidly changing technological landscape. Each year we endeavour to offer as many students as possible work placements which are central to Engineering.
Super capacitor car challenge run by the small piece trust. All bussing Engineers will have the opportunity to design and make the car of the future in miniature! Powered by electricity alone, who can make the fastest or strongest vehicle? This one day event deals with mechanisms and electronics in one neat package
Last summer we visited the world skills fair held at Olympia London to see many UK finalists competing against international competition in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Robotics and even hair and beauty!
